Cave of Agios Ioannis
The Cave of Agios Ioannis is one of the largest in the Cyclades. It has a rich and impressive stalactite decoration that includes the so-called “cave milk”, which is a rare stalagmite material in a watery state. The cave is located in an enviable position overlooking the sea and is half an hour’s walk from it (Vourkaria bay).
Church of Agios Georgios
The Church of Agios Georgios is a classic Cycladic church with a beautiful blue dome that stands out from the port of Iraklia.
Castle of Livadi
Livadi Castle (323 BC – 316 BC) is located on top of a hill that rises from Livadi beach.
Small Church of Profitis Ilias
It is a very small church located above Panagia. From the chapel you can enjoy the wonderful view it offers towards the sea.
Agios Athanasios
The third settlement of the island, after those of Agios Georgios and Panagia. Today its few houses are almost deserted. From here starts a path to Seladi and the Cave of Agios Ioannis.
Panagia village
The capital of Iraklia and is located approximately 4 km. south of Agios Georgios. It is a settlement with a few houses and typical Cycladic architecture located at the northern foot of Papa, the highest peak of the island at 420m. In its center we will see the imposing church of Isodeia.
Papas Mountain
The view from the top of Papas (at 420m.) is unique! You can reach the top by following the marked path that starts from the village of Panagia. The south side of Naxos can be seen to the north, the rest of the Small Cyclades to the NE and Amorgos to the SE in the background and Ios to the west.
Merichas Bay
The bay is one of the most impressive spots of Iraklia, as it consists of steep vertical rocks approximately 100m-150m high. which end in the sea and between them caves are formed but also two beautiful beaches with access but only from the sea.
